Mini-Sessions
What is a Mini Session?
Mini sessions are short photography sessions that typically last between 15 to 30 minutes. They are designed to provide a quick and affordable way for families, couples, and individuals to capture beautiful moments without committing to a longer session. These sessions are often scheduled on specific dates and locations, making them convenient for busy clients.
The term "mini-session" may appear to be a condensed, less expensive version of a full session; however, there is more to it than that. Some of the most significant distinctions are as follows.
A mini-session is:
-
Short and requires no more than 30 minutes to complete from start to finish;
-
Takes place at a location that the photographer has selected;
-
Takes place on a date that the photographer chooses;
-
Each client receives between 3 and 5 final images;
-
Perfect for those who are adaptable with timing and setup;
-
Best for clients with a concise shot list;
-
Ideal for those who have confidence in the photographer to provide excellent photographs, both posed and candid.
Mini-sessions are constructed in a way that allows for the simultaneous recording of multiple sessions. It is for this reason that mini-sessions are more affordable. They enable you to optimise your time and provide volume pricing.
What a Mini Session is NOT?
The most common misconception regarding mini-sessions is that they constitute a more affordable tailored photography session. Mini-sessions are not tailored. Clients are unable to select the day or venue for a mini-session. A mini-session should not be used for customers who are searching for baby or family pictures on a particular date.
You must be able to schedule several mini-sessions back-to-back if you want to charge cheap rates and yet turn a profit. For this reason, a mini-session cannot be held at a client's home or on a mutually convenient day.
A mini-session lasts no more than 30 minutes and will not provide more than 5 photographs. If the client wants an extended session and more photographs, a comprehensive shoot will more adequately fulfil their requirements.
What are the Benefits of a Mini Session?
-
Mini sessions are generally priced lower than full sessions, making professional photography accessible to a wider audience.
-
With a shorter duration, clients can easily fit a mini session into their busy schedules.
-
Photographers often offer mini sessions at different locations or themes, allowing clients to choose what best suits their needs.
-
Clients can expect to receive their images sooner than with traditional sessions, allowing for timely sharing and printing.
-
Mini sessions are ideal for capturing special occasions like birthdays, holidays, or seasonal family portraits.
What is an Outdoor Portraiture Session?
An outdoor portraiture session often involves pre-session discussions with the client, occurs on a day and at a location selected by the client, and culminates in the distribution of at least 10 photographs in a digital collection from which the client may select their final prints.
An outdoor portraiture session involves any session in which the client specifies the place and date.
Custom picture shoots often run a minimum of 45 minutes, contingent upon the photographer, and provide clients with a greater selection of images. They necessitate increased pre-planning, customisation, and selection. They will probably be able to accommodate more individuals and costume alterations if desired.
Do you need a Full Session or a Mini Session?
The client needs a full session if they want to:
-
Select the location;
-
Select the date;
-
Have a greater selection of varied photographs;
-
Schedule a wedding or new-born photography session;
-
Include a shoot participant who needs additional time to get used to new people and circumstances;
-
Conduct a photo session in their home or an agreed upon location.
The client needs a mini session if they want to:
-
If the client wants a less expensive option;
-
Is flexible regarding times and locations;
-
Doesn't need a specific look;
-
Can accomplish their goal with 3-5 photos;
-
Are prepared to adapt to a reduced time frame (and be punctual).
